Rino Matafú began his musical studies at the Conservatory of Music “A. Vivaldi” in Alessandria. He then honed his skills under the guidance of tenor Andrea Elena. He won the 15th Spiro Argiris Competition at the Sarzana Opera Festival, as well as the Enzo Sordello Competition in Cuneo.
In 2015, he made his stage debut as Edgardo Lucia di Lammermoor at the Teatro Cantero in Chiavari. The following season, he performed the role of Ismaele Nabucco at the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari. His American debut took place at the International Opera Center of America in Orlando as Duca Rigoletto, conducted by Bill Doherty and staged by Andrea Elena.
Rino Matafú was selected for a tour in France in 2017, where he sang Alfredo La Traviata at several theaters. He also returned to perform the role of the Duca, staged at the Royal Palace of Colorno, as well as in Pavia. In 2019, he was invited by Ezio Bosso to sing the tenor solo in Rossini's Stabat Mater in the cathedral of Todi, a performance organized by the Pavarotti Foundation. Later that year he made his debut in Spain, taking on the lead role of Gustavo (Riccardo) Un ballo in maschera at the Teatro Campoamor in Oviedo.
In 2022, he performed at the theatre in Zibello in memory of the late tenor Carlo Bergonzi. The year after, he sang the role of Rodolfo La Bohéme at the Centro Cultural Amaia in Irún, Spain, under the direction of Aldo Salvagno. At the Teatro Dal Verme in Milan he performed Alfredo La Traviata under the baton of Filippo Dadone.
In January 2025 Rino made his debut in the role Fenton in Verdi's Falstaff at the Bulgarian National Opera. Upcoming commitments include a tour in the United States as Rodolfo La Bohe?me, with the company European Opera Theater.
