Biography

Greek-Scottish soprano Annie Fassea has made notable debuts recently, among them Violetta La Traviata at the Slezské divadlo Opava in the Czech Republic, Zerlina Don Giovanni with NDK Sofia in Bulgaria, and Ilia Idomeneo at the Cultural Center of Heraklion in Greece. In the last season, she performed her first Musetta La Bohème at the Greek National Opera. At the Olympia Municipal Music Theatre Maria Callas she sang Adele Die Fledermaus, as well as roles of Lydie/Un pâtre in Fauré’s Pénélope, conducted by Pierre Dumoussaud. In Spain, she performed Amina La Sonnambula with the company Ras de Terra and the Orquesta Ensemble, conducted by Juan Pablo Valencia-Heredia. In 2024, she made her role debut as Königin der Nacht Die Zauberflöte for Opera Classica at Schloss Heusenstamm. This autumn she is making her house debuts as Königin der Nacht at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, as well as at the Volksoper Wien.

Her earlier roles have included Adele Die Fledermaus and Lucia di Lammermoor (cover) with IF Opera and the Bristol Ensemble at Belcombe Court, UK. At the Greek National Opera, she sang Barbarina Le nozze di Figaro and Amante/Suor Osmina Il Trittico. She also portrayed Clorinda La Cenerentola at the Olympia Municipal Music Theatre Maria Callas, Chloë in Büsser’s Daphnis et Chloë at the Castle of Mytilene, and Nora in Vaughan Williams‘ Riders to the Sea at the Horto Festival in Pelion. Additionally, she has appeared in various operettas and contemporary Greek operas in Athens.

In concert, she has sung Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 at the Athens Concert Hall with the ERT National Radio Symphony Orchestra, as well as with the Athens Symphony Orchestra, the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra and the Györ Philharmonic Orchestra. She was soprano soloist in Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater at the Municipal Theatre Papagos and in Mozart’s Requiem with the Athens Philharmonic Orchestra at the Culture Center Artemis. She also performed D. Minakakis‘ Thermopylae with the ERT National Symphony Orchestra.

Annie Fassea is a distinguished Fulbright alumna, having been awarded an Artist’s Scholarship in 2019 to study with the renowned bass Dimitri Kavrakos in New York. She holds a Diploma in Vocal Performance/ Opera from the Maria Callas Athenaeum Conservatory, where she studied with Christina Giannakopoulou. Following her studies, she was a member of Greek National Opera’s Young Artists Program in the 2017/2018 season. At the Concours International de Belcanto Vincenzo Bellini 2024 she won the special female voice prize and the audience prize. She received the Hans Gabor Award at the International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition 2023 as well as a special award at the International Lied Competition Boiko von Hochberg 2022. She was the winner for the "Let's Sing EU" 2022 and won 3rd prize at the London Classical Music Competition 2022 and at the Jacques Offenbach Grand Priz 2021.
