Bass-baritone Aslam Safla hails from the Réunion Island. He studied violin and, at the age of sixteen, began his singing studies. After relocating to Tours, France, he performed as a singer and musician in professional bands and even in a circus. In 2016, he embarked on his classical singing studies, training with Jean-Francois Rouchon and participating in masterclasses. In 2020, he was accepted into the Haute École de Musique (HEMU) in Lausanne, where he studied with Leontina Vaduva. His first significant role came in 2021 when he portrayed Guglielmo Cosi fan tutte in a co-production with the Opéra de Lausanne, Opéra de Fribourg, and HEMU. He won First Prize in the „Voix des Outremer“ competition at the Opéra Bastille in 2020 and reached the final at the „Nuits Lyriques de Marmande“ in 2023.
Aslam Safla made his professional debut in 2022 at the Opéra de Lausanne, in the role of Johann Werther, continuing to perform several roles there, among others Belcore L'Elisir d'amore and Mars Orphée aux Enfers, in a production by Olivier Py. In 2026 he sang Deuxième comissaire in Les dialogues des Carmélites there. He made his role debut as Papageno Die Zauberflöte with Trentino Music Festival, a role he reprised in the 2025-2026 season in a co-production of Teatro Real and Teatro de la Maestranza. In 2024 and 2025, he took on the role of Zuniga Carmen in Switzerland and Morocco. In summer 2026 he will also perform the title role in the new opera Charles le Téméraire by Jimena Marazzi in ancient castles of Grandson and Murten in Switzerland.
