Biography
Young Armenian baritone Gagik Vardanyan is currently a soloist of the Young Artist Program at the Armenian National Opera. In Yerevan his repertoire includes Belcore L'elisir d'amore, Don Alvaro Il viaggio a reims, Sharpless Madama Butterfly and Schaunard La bohème. With the Estonian National Opera he made his role debut as Germont La Traviata in the 2023-2024 season and as Escamillo Carmen last season. He also performed Baron Douphol La Traviata with Angers Nantes Opéra. In summer 2025 he made his successful house debut for Theater Kiel as Germont La Traviata at their open-air summer festival.
Gagik Vardanyan was a member of the opera studio at Staatsoper Hannover from 2019 until 2022. There he performed Zaretsky Eugene Onegin, Marullo Rigoletto, Officer, Fiorello Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Melot Tristan und Isolde and the baritone solo in the production Stimmen: Liebeslieder. His first roles Marullo Rigoletto and Il Commissario Madama Butterfly he sang in productions of the Aram Khachaturyan Concert Hall.
Gagik Vardanyan obtained his Bachelor's degree from the Komitas State Conservatory in Yerevan. He was invited to participate at the Opera for Peace Academy 2023 performing in concerts with Sumi Jo, Etienne Dupuis and Kamal Khan. He has attended masterclasses by Renée Fleming and Neil Shicoff. He sang with the Kaunas Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Constantine Orbelian. He is prizewinner of the SOI Fiorenza Cedolins Singing Competition 2024, the Klaudia Taev Competition 2023 (2nd prize), the Ottavio Ziino Competition 2023 (5th prize), the Manhattan International Music Competition 2020 (1st prize), the ISCART competition 2020 (1st prize), the Tenor Viñas Competition 2019 (special prize), the Eva Marton Competition 2018 (special prize) and the Aram Khachaturian Competition 2017 (3rd prize).
