BIOGRAPHY

Eduard Ferenczi Gurban is a promising young baritone from Cluj-Napoca, Romania. At the Gheorghe Dima National Music Academy, he excelled in both piano and singing, earning his undergraduate degree 2021 and completing his master’s degree with honors 2023. He finalised his studies with a doctorate. He made his operatic debut in 2021 at the Romanian National Opera Cluj-Napoca. Subsequently he performed at venues such as the Municipal Theater of Suceava and was a soloist in Mozart’s Coronation Mass with the State Philharmonic Târgu-Mures.

In 2021, he joined the Young Artist Programme at the Centre d’Art Lyrique de la Méditerranée in Nice. In the 2022-2023 season, he participated in the young artists‘ programme at the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux, where he debuted as Aeneas Dido and Aeneas. For Opéra Éclaté he performed Dancaïre Carmen Al Andaluz. He also appeared at the festival Les fantômes de l’opéra in Lavaur and Luchon.

In the 2023-2024 season, Eduard Ferenczi Gurban was a member at the Monte-Carlo Opera Academy where he appeared as L’Horloge Comtoise/ Le Chat in Ravel’s L’enfant et les sortilèges. Furthermore, he took on various roles in productions at the Opéra de Clermont-Ferrand and Opéra de Massy and sang the title role of H. Moody’s opera Sindbad at the Opéra de Nice. His current season includes roles such as Dancaïre Carmen, Ajax II La Belle Hélène and Figaro Il Barbiere di Siviglia.

His achievements in competitions include 1st Prize at the Les Nuits Lyriques de l’Hippodrome’s Grand Prix de la Voix 2024 and 3rd Prize at the 36th Concours International du Chant Lyrique Les Amis du Belcanto 2023 at the Théâtre de Béziers. He received the Prix du Jeune Espoir at the Grand Prix de la Voix 2022 and 1st Prize at the Danubia Talents International Competition 2021, 1st Prize.at the Basel International Vocal Competition 2022, and 3rd Prize at the London Classical Music Competition.
