Elda Laro is one of the most interesting multitalented artists of her generation. She is currently working as a coach, pianist and staff conductor at Deutsche Oper in Berlin and has performed with many of the world’s greatest in classical music. Her talent came out as a child prodigy playing Beethoven’s Piano Concerto no.1 at the age of 11 with the Albanian National Orchestra. She graduated a few years later with the highest marks in Torino with Remo Remoli and perfected her studies in Paris with Claude Helffer. Her intense activity as a soloists, chamber musician and accompanist took her quickly around Europe.
In the 2024-25 season Elda Laro will appear on prestigious stages as a conductor: in June 2024 she gives her debut at Philharmonie Berlin (Kammermusiksaal) conducting the Konzertchor Münster and the Eugene Concert Choir with Charles Gounod’s St. Cecilia Mass as part of the concert series “Choral Celebrations”. In April the Rame Lahaj International Opera Festival invited her to conduct a gala concert at the St. George Theatre in New York. Symphonic engagements this season will see Elda Laro conduct the Kosovo Philharmonic Orchestra in Pristina with a symphonic and vocal programme starring soprano Elbenita Kajtazi, and in autumn 2025 the Tirana Opera Theatre Orchestra in a concert within cultural events curated by the German embassy.
Her long collaboration with Deutsche Oper Berlin has seen her perform several times at Tischlerei Hall. There, she recently conducted two world premieres: Lieder von Vertreibung und Nimmerwiederkehr by Bernhard Gander (also performed at the Munich Biennale) in 2022, and BETA by Dariya Maminova in 2024. In the same hall she will conduct the production of Die lustigen Nibelungen by Oscar Straus in March 2025. In April this year she will perform the Burleske for piano and orchestra by Richard Strauss with the Neubrandenburg Philharmonic Orchestra. Later in June she will be back at the Deutsche Oper Berlin with a chamber music programme including Bartok’s Contrasts Trio.
Committed to developing new generations of artists, Elda Laro holds masterclasses around the world. In November 2023 she worked for the Steinway Hall in Dubai in an international seminar for young singers. In August this year she will be conducting Strauss' Elektra within the Dramatic Voice Program in Berlin. Furthermore, she is regularly coach and teacher in masterclasses in Italy, such as Portacomaro and Ischia.
