Biography

South Korean bass-baritone Changdai Park was a member of the opera studio at Komische Oper Berlin 2019-2021 and has continued to appear there as a guest. His roles in Berlin have included Figaro Le nozze di Figaro, Zaretsky Eugene Onegin, Sprecher/ 2. Geharnischter Die Zauberflöte, Conte Ceprano Rigoletto, Farfarello/ Herold Love for three oranges, small roles in La Traviata, The Rake’s Progress and The Nose. He performed 2. Geharnischter Die Zauberflöte on a tour at the Macau Cultural Centre and Koahsiung Arts’ Centre in Taiwan. In the current season he will sing Brander in Berlioz' La damnation de Faust at Domstufen Festspiele in Erfurt and 2. Graalsritter Parsifal with Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra in the Grieg concert hall.

Changdai Park studied first in his hometown Busan and graduated in 2016 from the Seoul National University in the class of KS Attila Jun. He participated in masterclasses of KS Kwangchul Youn, Anne Sofie von Otter, John Norris and KS Deborah Polaski. He received the Grand Prix of the Korean Minister of Culture in 2015. He became prizewinner in competitions such as Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg 2022, Veronica Dunne 2022, Belvedere 2021, Los Angeles Kaleidoscope 2019, Daegu Voice Competition 2018.
