Biography

Born in Durango, Mexico, Noel Hernández began his musical studies at the age of six, learning to play the piano. His first voice training was with his father Rosalio Hernandez Cabral, before he moved to study in México City. In the UK, he completed his studies at the Cardiff International Academy of voice (CIAV). His first operatic roles were Rodolfo, Nemorino and Ernesto in Mexico 2006/2007, Gaston and Spoletta in Portugal 2007, Florville in Rossini's Il Signor Bruschino and Paolino in Il matrimonio segreto in Italy 2008/2009. At Theater Basel where he attended the opera studio OperAvenir 2011/2012 he has sung several roles, such as Der Narr in Wozzeck, Remendado, Paco in La vida breve and Odoardo in Ariodante. During the season 2014/2015 he returned to Basel to sing Ernesto in the highly acclaimed Don Pasquale production of Massimo Rocchi. In November 2013 Noel Hernández sang Faust for the first time with the Symphony Orchestra Jena in Germany. At the Oper Schenkenberg festival in Switzerland 2013 he sang Ruiz in Il Trovatore and Verdi arias in the production “Insalata Verdi”. He returned there in the summer 2016 to sing Duca in Rigoletto. His concert repertoire includes Beethoven's 9th Symphony, Händel’s Messiah, Rossini’s Stabat Mater, Mozart’s Coronation Mass, Orff’s Carmina Burana, Schumann’s Dichterliebe, Schubert’s Die schöne Müllerin etc. Noel Hernández is a prizewinner at the Mozart Competition in 2009 and in Concurso Internacional de Canto de Sinaloa in Mazatlán in 2010.
