Biography


Hungarian mezzo-soprano Szilvia Vörös is joining the Wiener Staatsoper soloist ensemble in the autumn 2018 and will appear as Laura in La Gioconda at the La Monnaie in Bruxelles.

Vörös made her debut at the Hungarian State Opera in 2014 as 3rd maid in Strauss’ Elektra. She has built up her repertoire in Budapest singing such roles as Fenena in Nabucco, Waltraute in Die Walküre, Suzuki in Madama Butterfly, Bersi in Andrea Chenier, Siébel in Faust, Romeo in I Capuleti e I Montecchi, Alisa in Lucia di Lammermoor and most recently Isabella in L'Italiana in Algeri.

Szilvia Vörös participated in the Young Singers’ Project in Salzburg 2016 singing Albine in Massenet’s Thais alongside Placido Domingo and Un Musico in Manon Lescaut alongside Anna Netrebko in a concert performance, which was recorded by Deutsche Grammophon. She sang Bersi in Andrea Chenier in a concert performance with Anna Netrebko in 2017. As an active concert singer she regularly performs with works by Bach, Buxtehude, Mozart, Rossini, Beethoven, Bruckner, A.Pärt, P.Eötvös a.o.

Szilvia Vörös graduated from the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music from Éva Marton’s class, with degrees in opera in 2013 and voice pedagogy in 2015. She won 1st prize at the Concorso Lirico Internazionale di Portofino 2017, Grand Prix at the I.International Éva Marton Singing Competition 2014, Special prize at Competizione dell’Opera 2015 in Linz and 1st prize at the József Simándy Singing Competition 2008.
