Biography

French mezzo-soprano Solenn' Lavanant is a freelance artist based in Switzerland. She performed Cherubino at the Bayerische Staatsoper in the new production of Christoph Loy in 2017, returning to Munich in 2019 for Festwochen. Her future engagements include Cherubino in Mainz, Donna Elvira in Luzern, Destouches' opera Semiramis with Festival d'Ambronay and Sacrati's opera La finta Pazza in Dijon, Genf and Versailles.

Solenn’ Lavanant has sung recently Sesto in La Clemenza di Tito with Neues Theater Dornach, Cyrus in Händel’s Belshazzar with Capriccio baroque orchestra in Basel as well as in Tonhalle Zürich and Ilione in Campra’s Idomenée at Schönbrunn Schlosstheater in Vienna. She appeared at short notice in the title role of Charpentier’s Médée at Zürich Opera, under the baton of William Christie.

From 2009 to 2015 Solenn’ Lavanant was a member of the ensemble at Theater Basel with a repertoire ranging from the title role of M.A.Charpentier’s Médée, Mozart roles Cherubino, Dorabella and Idamante to the title role of Carmen, Varvara in Katya Kabanova, Marguerite in La Damnation de Faust, Muse/Nicklausse in Les Contes d’Hoffmann and Charlotte in Werther.

Solenn’ Lavanant has appeared at the Festival Aix-en-Provence 2013 as Ippolita in Cavalli’s Elena, at the Schwetzingen SWR Festival 2011 as Merione in Gluck’s Telemaco, with Opéra de Lausanne as Penelope in Il ritorno d’Ulisse in Patria and Enfant in L’Enfant et les Sortilèges. She performed as Ottavia in L’Incoronazione di Poppea with Festival d’Ambronay, as Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream in Mézière and as Mozart (music of Cherubino/Dorabella/Donna Elvira) in the opening production Da Ponte in New York at Neues Theater Dornach. She sang Dido in Purcell's Dido and Aeneas on a CD recording, under the baton of Leonardo Garcia Alarcon, which was nominated for the MIDEM Classical Awards 2011. She recorded Music for the Prix de Rome with music by Camille Saint-Saëns, conducted by Hervé Niquet.

Solenn' Lavanant studied arts in Paris before studying singing in Lausanne. She was a member of the opera studio OperAvenir at Theater Basel in 2008/2009. Her stage debut took place in 2007 as Dorothée in Cendrillon with Theater Bern, where she also performed La Prima Tromba in La Prova d'Orchestra and Smeraldine in L'amour des trois oranges.
