Biography

Young Estonian mezzo-soprano Kadi Jürgens made her role debut as Carmen in 2022 with Theatre Vanemuine in Estonia. Her recent performances include Concepción L'heure espagnole, Mädchen Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny and Mahler's Des Knaben Wunderhorn, all with Opera Ballet Vlaanderen. In 2023-24 she is making her house debut at Dutch National Opera as Mädchen Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny. In 2024 she is scheduled to sing Octavian Der Rosenkavalier in France.

Her professional debut took place in 2017 as Andromache in Lill's Into the Fire at Theatre Vanemuine. In student productions in Estonia and Belgium she sang Mrs Grose The Turn of the Screw, Nancy Albert Herring, Dido in Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, Orlando in Händel’s Orlando, Zerlina Don Giovanni, Carmen La Tragédie de Carmen, Lotte Lenya in Kurt Weill's LoveMusik and Mrs Green in van Parys' Private View. In concert she has sung a.o. Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater and Saint-Saëns' Oratorio de Noël with orchestras such as the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra, Oulu Symphony Orchestra, Flanders Symphony Orchestra, Belgian National Orchestra and Belgian Chamber Orchestra Casco Phil.

Kadi Jürgens obtained her Master of Music at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre in 2017. The following season she was an Erasmus student at the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp (RCA) and in 2021 finished a postgraduate degree in Opera Performance at the International Opera Academy (IOA) in Ghent. She won 3rd Prize at the 12th Klaudia Taev Competition 2021 and 3rd Prize at the Vello Jürna Competition 2022. In 2018 she received the PLMF Music Trust Award Best Young Singer of Estonia.
