Hawaiian baritone Jordan Shanahan became the 1st prizewinner at the I.Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg competition in 2016. He has worked with major opera companies and orchestras such as the Metropolitan Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Bayerische Staatsoper, De Nederlandse Opera, Teatro San Carlo di Napoli, Konzert Theater Bern, Theater St.Gallen, Staatstheater Nürnberg, Santa Fe Opera, Opera Cleveland, Des Moines Metro Opera, Green Mountain Opera Festival, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Washington D.C. and the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra. With a repertoire that is reaching 60 roles, he is equally at home singing Wagner and Strauss, the Italian repertoire, or contemporary operas. He began his career with such roles as Figaro in both Il barbiere di Siviglia and Le nozze di Figaro, Posa in Don Carlo, Enrico Ashton, Belcore, Malatesta, Valentin, Mercutio in Roméo et Juliette, Dandini, Dr.Falke in Die Fledermaus, Harlekin in Ariadne auf Naxos, Marcello und Schaunard, Sharpless, Ford in Falstaff, Riccardo in I Puritani, Zurga in Les Pêcheurs de Perles, Fritz in Die tote Stadt, Germont in La Traviata, Robert Oppenheimer und Hubbard in John Adams’ Dr.Atomic and Kallenbach in Philip Glass’ Satyagraha, During the last seasons his role debuts have included Rigoletto, Escamillo, Telramund and Heerrufer in Lohengrin, Scarpia in Tosca, Wolfram von Eschenbach in Tannhäuser, Alberich in Das Rheingold and Siegfried, Don Apostolo Gazella in Lucrezia Borgia, The Protector in Written on Skin, Stanley Kowalski in A Streetcar named Desire and Joseph de Rocher in Dead Man Walking. His concert repertoire includes Verdi Requiem, Fauré Requiem and Vaughan-Williams Sea Symphony. His recording of the title character in Thomas Pasatieri’s Signor Deluso was nominated for a Grammy award. In 2017 he will be recording Othmar Schoeck’s operas Vom Fischer und syne Fru and Das Schloss Durande under the baton of Mario Venzago.
