Biography

American baritone Todd Boyce joined the ensemble of Theater Bielefeld in 2022. His roles in Bielefeld have included the title role of Eugene Onegin, Charles Anthropocene, Bussy in Leoncavallo's Zaza and Falke Die Fledermaus. This season his new roles include Figaro Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Ford Falstaff and several roles in the German premiere of Wim Hendrickx's opera The Convert . In the 2021-2022 season he made his role debut as Pelléas Pelléas et Mélisande with Bühnen Bern, performed Melot Tristan und Isolde at Oper Zürich and sang the role of Danilo Die lustige Witwe at Landestheater Detmold and at Staatstheater Cottbus.

From 2016 until 2021 he was a member of the ensemble at Bühnen Bern where his repertoire included Don Giovanni, Conte Almaviva Le Nozze di Figaro, Don Alfonso Così fan tutte (at short notice also at Oper Zürich), Papageno Die Zauberflöte, Dr. Falke Die Fledermaus, Figaro Il Barbiere di Siviglia, Valentin Faust, Marcello La Bohème, Sharpless Madama Butterfly, Roland Fierabras, Clodomiro Lotario, with a guest performance at Händel-Festspiele Göttingen, and Robert Walser in a world premiere of Die Formel by T. Rasch.

Todd Boyce was from 2011 until 2016 a soloist at Luzerner Theater, where he performed important roles such as Marcello La Bohéme, Germont La Traviata, Enrico Lucia di Lammermoor, Malatesta Don Pasquale, Dandini La Cenerentola, Don Alvaro Il Viaggio a Reims, Harlekin Ariadne auf Naxos, Demetrius A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Fred/Petruchio Kiss Me, Kate, the title role of Sweeney Todd, and Victor in the world premiere of Die Antilope by J.M. Staud.

2011-2016 Todd Boyce was a soloist at Luzerner Theater, where he sang such roles as Marcello La Bohéme, Germont La Traviata, Enrico Lucia di Lammermoor, Malatesta Don Pasquale, Dandini La Cenerentola, Don Alvaro Il Viaggio a Reims, Harlekin Ariadne auf Naxos, Demetrius A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Fred/Petruchio Kiss Me, Kate, the title role of Sweeney Todd, as well as Victor in the world premiere of Die Antilope by J.M. Staud.

Todd Boyce is a graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory. After several young artist programs in the USA, he was a member of the opera studio at the Bayerische Staatsoper 2008-2010. He was a finalist in competitions including Houston Grand, Belvedere, IVC in The Netherlands, Montserrat Caballé Competition in Zaragoza, and the Ernst Haefliger Competition (3rd prize). Among his first roles were Conte Almaviva Le Nozze di Figaro, Guglielmo Così fan tutte, Masetto Don Giovanni, Dandini La Cenerentola, Top The Tenderland and Vicar Albert Herring. In the 2010-2011 season he performed Sid Albert Herring at Tiroler Landestheater.

A passionate concert singer, his large concert repertoire includes Händel's Messiah, Israel in Egypt, Bach's Weihnachts-Oratorium, Haydn's Die Schöpfung, Beethoven's 9th Symphony, Fauré's Requiem, Puccini's Messa di Gloria, Mahler's Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen, 5 Rückert Lieder, Kindertotenlieder, Poulenc's Chansons villageoises, Orff's Carmina Burana, Stravinsky's Requiem Canticles, Elegy for J.F.K., Finzi's In Terra Pax, Vaughan-Williams' Dona Nobis Pacem and Fantasia on Christmas Carols.
